Updates to Our Chicken Goujons & Potato Cubes
In line with our commitment to improving the quality of our meals, changes have been made to certain products over the summer months. These noticeable changes have been made to our chicken goujons and potato cubes to improve both their ingredients and nutritional quality. This project is in line with the positive reformulations that we have been making to many of our products, to use more natural ingredients, and to improve the nutritional value of the food where possible.
Over the past year, we have made significant positive reformulations to many of our meals, just a few being a reduction in ingredients, additives and preservatives in our bouillons, sauces, and gravies. We have also made our chicken and turkey product a better and lower salt product.
The new chicken goujon product is sourced from Glenhaven, an Irish supplier and consists of 100% chicken breast. This is a baked product compared to a fried one, and they are lower in both fat and salt, ensuring they are not classified as HFSS foods.
The new potato cubes are steamed and not fried and are lower in fat and salt. This product now also uses minimal ingredients and is free from all additives and preservatives.
These changes have been made in line with the directive set out by the Healthy Ireland Nutrition Standards for Hot School Meals and ensures that there are no meals being offered that are high in Fat, Sugar, and Salt. These guidelines have been put in place by The Irish Heart Foundation’s Food Shopping Card and provides a traffic light labelling system. This system helps us to determine which foods are more nutritious for us than others. Avoiding any foods that are classed as ‘Red’ means that High Fat, Sugar, and Salt foods are not consumed, and therefore has more positive health outcomes and reduces the risk of certain health issues.
More of these positive changes and reformulation of our products will be made over the coming months, and notifications will be sent out via our App to reflect these changes.
